Knitting my Wedding Sweater

Late last year I discovered the Georges Sweater pattern by Kolibri by Johanna and I absolutely

fell in love. She created this beautiful and delicate sweater design for her wedding day with an open back and bow. I immediately knew I wanted to knit one for my own fall wedding.

Johanna knitted her sweater with Touch Me Mohair“ yarn by We Are Knitters which I also considered for my sweater. However, Treehouse Knits created this beautiful colorway called "The Bunker" from their Riverdale collection that had so many colors that are present in my own wedding dress that I could not resist purchasing it for my own sweater. I'm so glad that I

did because the colors in this variegated yarn matched perfectly with my wedding dress and I think it's going to look so beautiful once it's completed.

The funny thing is is that I haven't even seen the Riverdale show that the yarn collection was inspired by but the color was just too perfect to pass on so one of these days I'll have to start watching it and see the inspiration for the colorway for myself.

I pre-ordered the yarn back in March 2023 and got it not too long after that around April 2023. I didn't cast on the sweater until July 26th, 2023 which was really kind of the latest that I could do it in order for me to have it ready by our October 6th wedding. Having said that, I took a break in between to knit and crochet a couple of baby projects for for some friends and their new babies. I just couldn't resist myself. I did finish those and I'm currently in the process of knitting my Georges sweater to make sure I have this ready in time for the wedding.

The pattern was a little bit confusing at first. I don't think necessarily any of the skills needed for knitting the sweater are too advanced however maybe just the translation from German to English just made for some of the pattern instructions to not be as clear as they could be. It's by no means impossible to understand but it took me a moment to figure out what I had to do. So far I'm about 36 rows into the sweater and things are going well but the Raglan increases have these huge holes from me doing yarn overs instead of Make one right (M1R) and Make one left (M1L). You live and learn!

My Georges Sweater WIP with the yarn over holes! 🤦‍♀️

Because I don't have time to frog back I will take some yarn to fix the Raglan increases (a.k.a. my yarn over mistakes) with a tapestry needle. The sad thing is is that they're right at the top of the sweater so they're so incredibly visible but I'll find a way to make it work. The good news is that I finally am knitting the M1R and M1L correctly and it's looking so much better throughout the sweater so it's really coming along and I think we'll be in a good place once I fix the large gaping holes at the top!

I'm so excited to created an heirloom piece for my wedding that will be both beautiful and functional for years to come! Stay tuned as I keep posting on my progress.
